The Second Law of Thermodynamics (Entropy) vs. Evolution

Duane Gish, who has a Ph.D. in biochemistry from University of California at Berkeley says,

Of all the statements that have been made with respect to theories on the origin of life, the statement that the Second Law of Thermodynamics poses no problem for an evolutionary origin of life is the most absurd

The Second Law of Thermodynamics which has to do with the loss of usable heat (energy) in any system, is one of the key laws of physics which govern how the universe operates.

This law, often referred to as the law of Entropy, says that everything left to itself will, over a period of  time, break down.  That is, it will go from order to chaos, from complex to simple, from new to old, from organised to disorganised.   All things left to themselves, whether living or not will break down and be destroyed.  This applies to a rock as well as to human beings. This is observable science and a law of physics to which there are no known exceptions.

Evolution is the theory that over a long period of time simple non living atoms and molecules spontaneously came together to form complex living organisms.  This is believed to happen through natural processes without the aid of any supernatural power... ie. God!

Speaking on the probability of this happening, well known evolutionist, Sir Fred Hoyle, said,

The chance that higher life forms might have emerged in this way is comparable with the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junk yard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein.

An important question to ask

If the second law of thermodynamics says that over time, things break down and go from complex to simple, then how can the theory of evolution be believed when it says that over time, things went from simple to complex?

The answer is that this is yet another reason why the theory of evolution cannot be believed. Entropy is a believable fact.  Evolution is an unbelievable theory.  According to probably the greatest scientist of our time, Albert Einstein, Entropy is the "premier law of all of science."   According to one leading evolutionist, Dr. T. N. Tahmisian,

Scientists who go about teaching that evolution is a fact of life are great con-men, and the story they are telling may be the greatest hoax ever. In explaining evolution, we do not have one iota of fact.

On the one hand, entropy is an observable fact:  apples decay, people die, cars rust and stars burn out!  Entropy is all around us and one day you will succumb to this immutable law of the universe.  If fact, from about the age of 20, more cells are dying in your body than are being reproduced.  You can go to the gym, eat healthy, get a tummy tuck and meditate all you like but you cannot protect your physical body from entropy.

On the other hand, evolution has never been observed: no one has ever witnessed non living atoms and molecules transform into living matter by natural processes and no one has ever seen one specific kind of life-form transform into another (macro-evolution) such as a bird become a cow or a carrot become an apple.

The second law of thermodynamics, known generally as entropy, contradicts and proves wrong the theory of evolution.  Evolutionists are aware of this and some have been very forthright in openly admitting the problem such as Roger Lewin who said,.

One problem biologists have faced is the apparent contradiction by evolution of the second law of thermodynamics. Systems should decay through time, giving less, not more, order

Lewin is right.  There are no exceptions to entropy and no examples of evolution.
