In 1962 James Watson, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins were awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery in 1953 of the DNA molecule.
What is DNA? DNA (Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid) is a double-helix molecule (picture below) which contains coded genetic instructions necessary for the creation and function of every living cell.
Most of the approximate 100 trillion cells in your body contain DNA. All cells were originally created through DNA. It has been estimated that if every DNA molecule was stretched out in a straight line, it would be about 6 feet long. This means that the DNA strands in one person alone would reach the moon and back a staggering 100,000 times. The information in a pinhead of DNA is enough to fill a pile of books (all containing new information) that would go to the moon and back 250 times!
What is DNA? DNA is the blueprint (or instructions) which explains how to build every protein molecule in your body. Proteins are the building blocks of life and necessary for producing bones, blood, skin...
As scientists are agreed that you cannot have information without intelligence, we need to ask, what or who is the intelligence that put the incredibly complex information in the DNA molecule. The Bible has the answer to this question when it says...
"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:" (Colossians 1:16-17)
Have a look at the videos below and consider further the overwhelming evidence which the DNA molecule brings for proof of God and a reason why you should believe in God.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. (Psalm 139:14)
Could people make life from something. No. Could a few random amino acids floating around in some primordial soup organise themselves into something (where did they come from). No
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? If you say egg, then how did the egg get there without there being a chicken to lay the egg? If you say chicken, then don't chicken's come from eggs!!
Here's something really mind-boggling...
DNA (Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid) needs something called RNA (Ribo Nucleic Acid) or the DNA cannot do it's job of building proteins (the building blocks of life). RNA is needed to decode or translate the instructions in the DNA so that proteins (the building blocks of life) can be made.
So, no RNA, no life!
Now, here's where it gets tricky. You cannot get RNA without DNA because DNA (like the chicken) is what makes the RNA (like the egg). The bottom line is that both DNA and RNA had to be there in the first living cell TOGETHER and in their final COMPLETE form, for life to exist and be reproduced.
So the question you need to ask yourself is this: can non living matter produce life? Not just life but life that is complete with a code for reproducing life and a method for translating that code to build it.
And since it is not possible to have information without intelligence, another question needs to be asked: what intelligent entity put the information into the DNA molecule AND at the same time, created the RNA decoding system by which that information can be acted upon to reproduce life?
The Bible's answer to this dilemma is that God created life (plants, microscopic organisms, animals and people) and that he made each one so that it would produce after it's own kind. In other words, the chicken came first (complete with DNA and RNA) and it produced more chickens... and not cows!
All the empirical evidence we have in the world around us is that this is true. As the Bible says...
And the earth brought forth vegetation, and plants yielding seed after their kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after its kind: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:12)
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:24-25)
